We are finishing up demo today and removing all the old fiberglass insulation. This insulation was still really clean and we didn’t want to throw it all away so we decided to repurpose it into the interior wall. This may help a little with sound reduction, and at least it keeps it out of the landfill.
We are removing the old insulation because we want to build out the walls to 5.5 inches and a re-insulate with an R23 rock wool insulation. This will exceed current code and give should help us save money on our heating bills.
We chose rock wool over fiberglass because we really liked the fire and pest resistance, and the ease of installation. It’s also a dense packed insulation and gives more R value per inch than fiberglass. All of that will be coming soon!
