We are fortunate to have our mobile home on a solid block foundation. This allows us to add a little extra weight to the structure without too much concern. Since we have that leeway we decided to install standard 1/2″ drywall on our ceilings. The problem was that the old 2×2 trusses weren’t strong enough to support the drywall.
To fix this we simple cut 2×6 boards to length and sistered them to the original trusses using 3 inch screws. These new boards will act as the ceiling joists that will carry the weight of the drywall. Before we started we also added new rafter vents to the attic. All in all this was a quick and fairly easy job.
