Master Bedroom | Building Our Custom Minimalist Closets

Now that the drywall is installed we are ready to build our closets. Wait, what? Yep, we are doing things a little bit different and framing our closets after drywall. This just made it easier for us to install the drywall with less cuts and less waste. That’s the beauty of DIY, you can do it your way!

Our closet design is an experiment for us. We wanted to try an open, or exposed, closet layout. This mean that we won’t be installing any doors. It sounds odd but it makes sense for us. We like to live minimally so we don’t have a big mess to hide, and having an open closet helps motivate us from making a mess to hide. It’s also one less step to do during the day. opening and closing doors isn’t hard, but each step you add to a task, makes that task less likely to happen. It’s a mental thing more than anything else. This is why we often end up leaving our closet doors open. It’s just extra work.
